No-Stone’s Unexpected Involvement with a Local Primary School

Posted on 23 February 202323 February 2023 by Admin

How Small Things Can Make a Big Difference

Committed to improving the lives of people in impoverished areas, Kalbaskraal specifically but not exclusively. Recently, we had a small but meaningful involvement with the local primary school, OJ Erasmus, that taught us an important lesson about the power of small actions.

The primary school has a vegetable garden that includes eggplants, but they had to throw away a lot of them because they didn’t know how to cook them for the kids. When Heike, the Chairman of No-Stone’s Board, who is on a Partners for Possibility programme with the principal Mr Goodman, heard about this, she asked John if they would be interested in learning how to cook eggplant. John was delighted and arranged for a cooking session the following day.

Fortunately, one of No-Stone’s volunteers, Johannes, who had been with us for many years and was visiting from Germany, is a vegetarian and eggplant is one of his favourite foods. He happily agreed to help out, and the next day, he was in the school kitchen, teaching the chefs how to cook eggplant. They made a meal from it and enjoyed it thoroughly.

This may seem like a small thing, but it was a significant success for No-Stone. It showed us that if we get the small things right, the bigger things will start falling into place. As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “If you want to change the world, start with yourself.” In this case, the small act of teaching local moms how to cook eggplant not only prevented food waste but also helped the school provide nutritious meals for its students.

We believe that every small action counts, and that’s why No-Stone is committed to making a difference in our community, one step at a time. We hope that this experience will inspire others to take small actions in their own communities, because together, we can create a better world for everyone.

In conclusion, we are proud of our involvement with the local primary school and grateful for Johannes’ contribution. We will continue to seek out and act on opportunities to make a difference, no matter how small they may seem.

No-Stone House

Has moved to Skool Street. Come and see Saskia's Place, the library or come and watch the reading programmes take place. OR if you would like to sit in at Jo's Cafe' a place of safety where young people can just come and be. We will start soon with out Saturday morning programmes.

Our Team

The team has a mix of youth and experience, energy and wisdom. The bulk of the team live in Kalbaskraal. Again, this is headed up by Heike (with 24 yrs of outreach ministry experience) and Mark (40 yrs of coaching at various levels and sports). We can then add Jo-Anne with her 30 years of ministry and outreach.

Our Relationships

We have strong relationships with many ministries and companies. Each supporting us in various ways and in Kalbaskraal and out. Our prime focus is to be a complete service provider for the local primary school OJ Erasmus, and sourcing any resources that they require. Keep in mind that this is a model we are building to move onto other rural schools in the Swartland.
