“Dignity thy name is service” simply highlights the importance and value of serving others. We are suggesting that true dignity and greatness are achieved not by serving oneself, but by serving others and making a positive difference in their lives.
The quote implies that service to others is a noble and honorable pursuit that can elevate a person’s character and bring meaning to their life. By putting the needs of others before one’s own, a person can demonstrate humility, compassion, and generosity, qualities that are highly regarded in many cultures and religions.
Dignity is a concept that can be hard to define, yet it is something that everyone deserves. At the No-Stone Foundation in the rural village of Kalbaskraal, we strive to serve our guests with dignity, even in the midst of their struggles. Our mission is to provide not just food, but also a gift that goes beyond basic sustenance.
Through our No-Stone House and partnership with the Daily Bread Feeding Scheme, we offer two sittings of meals every day: one for elders and one for school kids. But we don’t stop there. Recently, thanks to the generosity of Arbor Vitae Designs, we were able to add ten tables and forty benches to our facilities. This allows our guests to come and sit down, to enjoy their food in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Our goal is to make our guests feel seen and valued, not like beggars or paupers. By providing a space where they can sit down and be fed, we are giving them a small taste of the dignity that they deserve. We want them to feel like people who are struggling with the hand that they were dealt, but who are still deserving of respect and kindness.
All of our volunteers are from the village as well, and we have worked hard to instill in them the value of treating each person as a guest. They serve our guests with a smile, offering kind words and a listening ear when needed. By doing so, they show our guests that they are not alone, and that they are part of a larger community that cares about them.
It’s about more than just providing food; it’s about providing a space where our guests can experience a little bit of joy each day. By treating them with dignity, we hope to help them realize their own worth and walk tall. Who knows what kind of impact this could have on their lives?
At the No-Stone Foundation, we believe that dignity and service go hand in hand. By serving our guests with dignity, we are not just helping them in the short-term, but also planting seeds of hope for the future. Our hope is that one day, they will be able to stand tall and realize their own potential. Because at the end of the day, dignity is something that everyone deserves.
