A Labor of Love:

Posted on 5 October 20235 October 2023 by Admin

The Countdown to Saskia's Place Opening

Running an entirely volunteer-driven NGO is a journey filled with both challenges and heartwarming moments. At The No-Stone Foundation, where every step forward is propelled by the dedication of volunteers, we’re navigating the final stretch to the opening of Saskia’s Place with resilience and enthusiasm.

The Volunteer Rollercoaster:

Working with volunteers, while incredibly rewarding, comes with its own set of challenges. The ebb and flow of availability, the unpredictability of commitments – it’s a dance we’re intimately familiar with. Yet, here we are, in the midst of turning dreams into reality, collectively working towards the grand opening of Saskia’s Place.

The Countdown Challenges:

With each passing day, the excitement builds. There’s still much to be done in preparation for the grand opening. Shelves are being crafted, walls are being painted, waterproofing is ensuring durability, and doors with security features are soon to be installed. We’re transforming an empty room into a haven of knowledge and community, and the clock is ticking.

The space in front of the entrance, currently a canvas of potential, requires our attention. Rubble needs clearing, soil filling, compost mixing, rocks finding, and plants acquiring – the makings of a beautiful garden that will greet visitors as they step into Saskia’s Place.

Opening Day: 21st Oct 2023, 11 am at No-Stone House:

In anticipation of the grand moment, on the 21st of October 2023 at 11 am, the doors of Saskia’s Place will swing open at No-Stone House, 82 Old Malmesbury Road, Kalbaskraal. It’s a moment we’ve been eagerly anticipating, a culmination of collective effort and shared passion.

What to Expect:

While Saskia’s Place may be small in physical space, its impact is boundless. Anyone stepping into the quad with a book will be greeted with a free cup of coffee or tea, an invitation to linger and savor the joy of reading. Our Reading Programme, launching on the same day, is geared towards foundation phase kids in the village, shaping a literary journey for the young minds we hope to inspire and nurture.

Reflecting on Saskia:

Amidst the celebration, there will be a moment of reflection for Saskia by her family and friends. It’s an acknowledgment of loss, a commitment to understanding the struggles of our youth, and a promise that at No-Stone, we stand ready to move mountains for the young folk, provided they take that step towards us and work hand in hand.

Post-Opening Feast:

After the grand opening, we invite all attendees to join us in a joyous feast. It’s a moment to celebrate not just the birth of Saskia’s Place but the spirit of community that has brought it to life.

Heartfelt Thanks:

We extend our deepest gratitude to those who have fueled this endeavor:

  • Goodgedacht Trust: Thank you for your unwavering support and the incredible Garden Programme initiative that has added a touch of natural beauty to Saskia’s Place.

  • Department of Culture and Sport Library Services: Your insatiable passion and dedication have been a joy to behold. We are grateful for your support as we bring the world of literature closer to Kalbaskraal.

  • OJ Erasmus Primary School and Mr. John Goodman: A special thanks for your support and collaboration. Your dedication to education and community has played a vital role in making Saskia’s Place a reality.

  • School Governing Body: Your commitment and contributions are appreciated. Together, we’ve created a space that will leave a lasting impact.

  • Nalibali, Carol, and her passion for learning: A heartfelt thank you for your involvement in our Reading Programme. Your passion for learning is an inspiration, and together, we aim to ignite the love for reading in young minds.

  • WIS-24/7: Our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support in providing the Internet Hotspot for the Library and No-Stone House. Your commitment to connectivity is invaluable.

As we count down the days, we invite you to join us on this journey. Saskia’s Place is more than a library; it’s a symbol of community, resilience, and the boundless power of collective endeavor.

Stay tuned for updates as we turn these dreams into reality, one volunteer-fueled step at a time.

No-Stone House

Has moved to Skool Street. Come and see Saskia's Place, the library or come and watch the reading programmes take place. OR if you would like to sit in at Jo's Cafe' a place of safety where young people can just come and be. We will start soon with out Saturday morning programmes.

Our Team

The team has a mix of youth and experience, energy and wisdom. The bulk of the team live in Kalbaskraal. Again, this is headed up by Heike (with 24 yrs of outreach ministry experience) and Mark (40 yrs of coaching at various levels and sports). We can then add Jo-Anne with her 30 years of ministry and outreach.

Our Relationships

We have strong relationships with many ministries and companies. Each supporting us in various ways and in Kalbaskraal and out. Our prime focus is to be a complete service provider for the local primary school OJ Erasmus, and sourcing any resources that they require. Keep in mind that this is a model we are building to move onto other rural schools in the Swartland.
