Looking for Thabo, but finding something else.

Posted on 27 February 202427 February 2024 by Admin

We found that we can go on a journey together.

From the heart of Saskia’s Place, where dreams take flight amidst the rustle of pages and the whispers of imagination, a new chapter unfolds. Today marked the inception of our cognitive development and reading sessions, a venture brimming with anticipation and possibility.

As the sun cast its golden glow upon the horizon, two groups gathered, each pulsating with nervous energy – the Coaches and the kids. Picture the scene: a long day at school, weary minds, and now, the prospect of “Extra Lessons.” But this, dear friends, is no ordinary classroom. It is a portal to adventure, a gateway to discovery.

The children arrived, weary yet curious, their eyes alight with anticipation. After a snack and a drink to fuel their eager minds, they tentatively gathered around the tables, unsure of what the day held in store. But oh, how swiftly they embraced the journey!

Engagement blossomed almost immediately, as if the very air hummed with the promise of discovery. Those initially distracted soon found themselves swept up in the magic of the moment. Together, they embarked on a quest to Find Thabo, racing through the session with boundless enthusiasm.

With time left to spare, we sent them for a brisk run around the block, their laughter echoing through the corridors of Saskia’s Place. And upon their return, the books emerged, beckoning with tales yet untold. The Coaches, too, found themselves enraptured, lost in the pages of adventure.

As the minutes slipped away, time became a mere whisper in the wind. Even as I called out “time’s up,” the children remained steadfast, unwilling to let the magic fade. Eventually, with a gentle reminder from Jo and the mournful packing of bags, the session drew to a close.

But the spirit of adventure lingers still, casting its spell upon us all. For next week promises new horizons, new sessions with different grades, and the boundless potential of discovery. And amidst it all, Lauren, our Librarian, stands as a beacon of knowledge, her presence a testament to the enduring power of literacy.

So, dear friends, as we bid farewell to today’s adventures, let us carry forth the spirit of engagement and wonder. For in the pursuit of knowledge, every moment is a treasure waiting to be unearthed.

No-Stone House

Has moved to Skool Street. Come and see Saskia's Place, the library or come and watch the reading programmes take place. OR if you would like to sit in at Jo's Cafe' a place of safety where young people can just come and be. We will start soon with out Saturday morning programmes.

Our Team

The team has a mix of youth and experience, energy and wisdom. The bulk of the team live in Kalbaskraal. Again, this is headed up by Heike (with 24 yrs of outreach ministry experience) and Mark (40 yrs of coaching at various levels and sports). We can then add Jo-Anne with her 30 years of ministry and outreach.

Our Relationships

We have strong relationships with many ministries and companies. Each supporting us in various ways and in Kalbaskraal and out. Our prime focus is to be a complete service provider for the local primary school OJ Erasmus, and sourcing any resources that they require. Keep in mind that this is a model we are building to move onto other rural schools in the Swartland.
